Dunmail Raise - Backgound General

Dunmail Raise is the supposed burial site of Dyfnwal ab Owain, 10th century King of Stratchclyde; may mark the kingdom's southern boundary

A large cairn between the carriageways of the A591 north of Grasmere is supposed to mark the burial spot of the 10th century King of Strathclyde, the British kingdom that extended from what was later southern Scotland into Cumbria. The pass, and the cairn may mark the southern boundary of that Kingdom
