Aqua-tints from West's Guide to the Lakes (1796)
Making aqua-tints is a complex process, but the resultant prints are dramatic and atmospheric. Click on Gallery to see a set of 16 aqua-tints sold to be bound in with West's Guide, the 6th edition of 1796, which also contained two engravings. All these images come from the earliest days of tourism in the Lakes, with Fr West's Guide instructing the reader where to stand to get the best views! They show the lakes as Wordsworth would have known them, following his move to Dove Cottage in 1799
