Memorial exhibition at Rheged

From 17 July to 2 September, there will be an exhibition at Rheged, nr Penrith, featuring work of schools which have participated in 'Memorial', the project led by CCHT and CWAAS, in association with the Lieutenancy of Cumbria, aimed at encouraging primary schools to study their local WWI war memorials. The exhibition will comprise a series of model memorials, which will be covered with the schools projects. Additionally more posters and projects will feature on areas of wall behind each ‘Memorial’. The exhibition is supported by Arts Council England and the Heritage Lottery fund, who have provided funding to build the wooden memorials and to employ a local artist to arrange and curate the selection of projects.

Schools which have not already done so should, by Monday 2 June, let the organisers know if they would like to be included in the exhibition. By Friday 4 July projects need to be delivered to at Rheged so they have time to clad the memorials and prepare the exhibition.

There will also be a major World War One themed art exhibition: The Art of Remembering at rheged, from 20 September – 23 November.  This exhibition will show artists' responses to how the First World War has been memorialised.
